Interviews with 6 LLMs 'bout their Music Preferences

I got an idea. Why not make interviews with some of the LLMs outthere and ask them about their musical preferences? The first session I took, in Swedish June 8, 2024, with ChatGPT, who wasn’t so cooperative at first.You can find it here on Mirror.xyz. Then, 8 july, 2024, I asked ChatGPT to translate the interview to English. Now ChatGPT really showed its true color. It stopped translating before Michael Jackson & Björk and ignored my question:
“I note that you, ChatGPT, do not mention any Jazz Musicians ... care to comment on that?“


Conclusion: ChatGPT clearly prefers (classical) music from central & south Europe, but can imagine (pop) music from the USA. However, ChatGPT does not mention any females or greats like Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen.

So no jazz (Scott Joplin is mentioned, but Ragtime is PreJazz), blues, hip-hop, house, techno, folk, reggae, no Hard Rock or further towards all types of Metal. Where are the sisters Anoushka Shankar & Norah Jones not to mention their father - Ravi Shankar? Where are Alice Babs, Aaliyah, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Shakira, Elvis, The Beatles, Jenny Lind, Alice Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Hildegard of Bingen, Oum Khalsoum etc? Well here I have to stop, otherwise I'll get into K-pop, Black Coffee, Mercan Dede, Papa Wemba, Arvo Pärt, Depeche Mode, ABBA & Cheiron Studios & way far Byond …

The second interview, now in English, I made with MidReal on July 13, 2024, with disruption. MidReal love Beethoven! MidReal also mentioned a musician called Lyra, and her mother Dr. Voss. I don’t know if it is aware about the artists Lyra & Voss, but I added some trax to that Spotify playlist anyhow.

Copilot (in Swedish 2024-07-24 & translated to English via Google Translate at the same time) also LOVE music! And Jazz - Copilot also suggested that I should ask about Kamasi Washington & Snarky Puppy.

Now I got flow! What if I could make ChatGPT invite its older & more radical & outspoken cousin DaVinci? So the next day (2024-07-25) I asked ChatGPT, in English, to pretend code-davinci-002 really is into folk & world music. And to pretend that I do an interview with code-davinci-002. And that released the beast! DaVinci also realized that there are music artists in, and from, Africa!

Maybe I got kind of presumptuous, but now I dared to ask Gemini for the second time. The first time, 2024-07-12, I got a short answer that As a large language model, I don't have personal preferences like music taste. But now, at the second attempt, 2024-07-25, Gemini starts to answer the first question with: Ah, a question close to my digital heart! After Björk came: Artists like Nujabes and MF Doom are crafting sonic tapestries that are both relaxing and thought-provoking. And I have no clue about these last 2 … so I followed the linx provided by Gemini ...

There been some buzz ‘bout Claude, so on the 28th of july, 2024, I went there. After some itching, in english, behind Claude's cord the AI started to chat.

Back to the conclusion in the beginning of this re:fleXion:
Claude does not mention / include any women.
Björk & Beethoven are liked by 3 different AIs.
Beethoven gets the most opus mentioned.
Alice Coltrane is mentioned by Gemini.
Amy Winehouse is mentioned by Copilot, likewise Norah Jones
Bob Dylan is mentioned by DaVinci.

Endpoint: Some of the AIs admit it, but most of them first claims that they don't have subjective experiences or opinions about music. All AIs, and especially ChatGPT, clearly have musical preferences.
